Logitech held their annual press event at the Monarch yesterday where Mr. Yousef Atwan, Regional Director Middle East & Africa for Logitech introduced the new Logitech products and technology. He explained how a lot of thought is put into every Logitech product and how Logitech is continuously looking at ways to innovate. There were two things that Logitech seemed to be focused at the moment.

The new DarkField technology which allows their mice to work on any surface, including glossy or glass surface. We reviewed the Anywhere mouse a couple of weeks back and I can verify that this works quite well. The new mouse comes with a unified receiver which can store six different devices so, for example, you install the receiver in your notebook and use a different mice at work and home without any re-pairing or re-installing. Logitech has introduced the portable version of the mouse in the Middle East region but they don’t have any specific plans for the desktop version.

The second important product their showed was their Guitar Hero equipment- the guitar and the drums set. I played around with the guitar and although its quite heavy because its made of wood instead of plastic, it feels pretty good in your hands. The weight definitely makes you tire faster than the light plastic guitar bundled with the game but then again, there is more satisfaction.

Other products that were shown were new speakers that produce a 360 degree sound, some new iPod docks and a notebook stand.

Unfortunately, Universal Remotes will be exiting the Middle East market for now so I didn’t get a chance to try the follow-up to Harmony One- my favorite remote control.

iXBT Labs Review: AMD Athlon II X2 215 Processor

“In the end, there is no miracle. Athlon II X2 215 is a bit faster than Celeron, but slower than Pentium. It’s positioned on a par with the lowest-end Celeron anyway. Besides, it works well with DDR3 memory. Something which LGA775 processors, especially low-end, cannot boast of.”
