The public will be able to watch the show and check out all the latest products, gadgets and software on Thursday 22 October 2009, as the consumer electronics section of the event will open, free to the general public on the final day.

“The Titan Robot has proved to be a big hit with all the visitors at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK,” said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre. “Our customers have had an outstanding week of business networking and knowledge exchange which has far exceeded everyone’s expectations in today’s economic climate. We anticipate the last day to be a frantic affair of final business negotiations in the company of the most incredibly interactive and fascinating robot.”

The Titan Robot thrills the crowd with an exciting mix of heart stopping action and entertainment that makes the show a perfect compliment to GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. Titan talks, sings, dances and even cries enticing the crowd throughout the show.

“Nobody at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK will have seen anything like Titan the Robot before,” said Nik Fielding, the creator of Titan the Robot. “We are delighted to bring our show to Dubai and look forward to adding a totally new element to the show.”

Not a Robot it is a guy in a suit you can see his arms in the tubes and the miror on the front is so he can see out of the suit.

  2. Chad says:

Have to agree with Jaynap. The suit is nice but that’s not a robot.

  3. I’m not sure if it’s a real robot or not, but one thing’s for sure; it will haunt my nightmares for some time to come.

  4. Dave says:

One thing is sure, I’m always going to wish I could get the nine minutes of my life back that I wasted watching that video.

You’d be amazed at the technology of tomarrow that is around today

  6. aids says:

O and how the heck is the automated robot going to run alone… if its fake…

  7. ervino says:

Thanks gawd it is not real! Otherwise knowing something like that really already exist would have haunted my dreams… brrr! Fortunately instead it could be considered more similar to a PowerArmor suit, ie the exact thing the human race will desperately need to fight against something like 8 feet robots, if and when they will become a real thing.
Ehm, end scene of the last episode of Battlestar Galactica anyone? :)

  8. none says:

I’m not sure why people think this is such a big deal….. you can buy miniature versions of these things at Toy’s R Us for under $100. I don’t see the technological wonder in just making a large toy with a set routine. The thing isn’t particularly agile or interactive. If I had to sum it up, I would say….. BFD

    Here is what I found.

Titan the Robot is the stage name of any one of a number of human dancers who perform dressed in an android costume[1][2] created by Cyberstein Robots Ltd in 2004.[3]
The costume is approximately 2.2 metres (7′ 3″) tall and 47 kg (7.5 st)[1] and increases to 350 kg (55 st)[1] including the performer and onboard equipment. It was designed by Nik Fielding, who runs Cyberstein from Torquay, Devon, England.[2] Titan has performed at a variety of public and private events, from the Commonwealth Games and Alton Towers to bar Mitzvahs[1] and shopping centres.[4] Titan has appeared on Channel 4 television and BBC Children In Need.[3] When asked by The Times what skills potential performers would require, Nik Fielding replied “They’d need to be good at playing Xbox because that’s what it’s like in there.”[2]
In performance, Titan moves about freely in an open area and uses music and comedy to interact with spectators. Shows last for about 30 minutes and can be mixed with a walkabout.[4]

It’s defo a robot! I saw it in town the other week! It’s not run on its own… durh! There is a man on a trolley who controls it and plays the sounds through his box…. It’s amazing and I can assure you it is definately a robot. The guy said its about 1.5 million pound! Don’t mock technology!!!

  11. redback says:

i agree with some it is a 1.5 million pound robot, i seen it a minehead, and he is ontolled by a man who has the controlos and sound machine at the back of the trolley he is transpoted on,

  5. [...] This plays out like the opening scene of an 80s sci-fi film: Eight foot tall robot appears in a shopping mall, sings “What a Wonderful World” and “My Way,” dances around a bit to a chorus of oohs and aahs from the audience, launches into a series of silly demo movements, and then… Well, we won’t spoil it for you. Let’s just say that at eight feet tall (and with tons of menace) we have to wonder if Titan the Robot could be stopped should some sort of cinematic “glitch” should cause him to “freak out” amongst the onlookers at Dubai’s GITEX 2009. Like most man-made disasters, this one starts innocently enough: with a show-stopping rendition of a Paul Anka tune. Curious? Peep it after the break. Just make sure you don’t get get close. [...]
